happy mardi grape!

By now most of us know that turquoise is the color of the year for 2010.
But grape is the lovely runner up.
perch. has a new purple chandelier in the house!
It's glass and very high style.
It would look fabulous as the only purple element in a room, even if you just have white walls.

Color expert Maria Killam says the color "Mardi Grape", a sophisticated crossover between purple, brown, and gray iis going to be widely used in fashion and home decor. Purple has been with us for awhile, but the brown and gray tones of Mardi Grape makes purple usable as a neutral.

You can go all out and paint an entire room purple.

You can dip your toe in the water and choose a lighter tone and do an accent wall.

Style maven Lynda from the blog Focal Point used purple in a sophisticated table setting (shown above).

Accesories are always a sure fire way to add a bit of a trend.

However you decide to go, just give it a try.

Change is good, and color is the quickest and easy way to make a change.

Whether you r room is trad or mod, a little infusion of purple will add energy and elegance.

So from New Orleans, we wish you a Happy Mardi Grape!

mooi exclusive

Caroline is off to New York City for market. We love to think of her as "Caroline In The City"
hitting all of our favorite shops, hot spots, and hobnobbing at glam parties.

One our favorite lines is by Mooi designs

Recently Mooi opened a showroom at the B & B Italia shop in Soho.

It takes up the entire lower level.

We have only looked at their things in a catalog they sent us, and on their web site, so it was so exciting to see the product in person.

Photos are not allowed, but the manager at B & B Italia allowed us to snap some when he heard we were avid decor bloggers. Click on images for larger views.

The black Smoke Chairs are so beautiful in person. They actually burn the wood frame to achieve the texture and color.

The over scale floor lamps are awesome.

And the hanging light fixtures are very pretty and sophisticated.

We are dying to use the real life size horse lamp in an interior design project. Maybe in a billiards room, or a gentleman's library. And the pig table just makes us smile.

The porcelain vessels are so refined when you se them in person. It's very high quality that reminds us of very good Chinese porcelain, but because of the design, with a decidedly modern edge.

And what about this collection of lamps put together as a spectacular chandelier!

Caroline has two parties to go to: One at Bloomingdales where she will meet our friends Eddie Ross and Jaithan Kochar who did a window for Elle Decor. Vote for Eddie's window HERE.

The other is for our friend Preston Bailey who is launching his new book, Celebrations. That's 60 year old Preston in the photo on the invitaation! He looks so beautiful! And don't you love the globe he made out of flowers! Another friend, the celebrity event planner Mary Blum is putting the whole thing together, so this is going to be THE party of the year for sure! We wonder what Preston will be wearing!

Modern Turquoise Murano chandelier from perch.

Venetian glass, especially Murano can be very expensive. It usually takes 3-4 people to finish an object, but in a large scale company it can be as many as 18. the ancient traditions of the craft using the same techniques and tools that were employed by the artisans’ predecessors centuries ago. That is why when you are purchasing a Murano chandelier, you are not simply purchasing an object that was made to light a room, you are actually purchasing a one-of-a-kind piece of history that has been created by master artisans with care and passion. magazine street has black and gold fever!

Tomorrow is game day. Only one more to win to get the New Orleans Saints to The Super Bowl!

Everybody is dressing in black and gold, and on our little stretch of Magazine Street the shops are sporting black and gold too.

Almost every shop has some kind of Saints decoration.
Everything from black and gold merchandise, to wreaths, to fleur di lis have been sprouting up everywhere.

The city is electrified. We are so hopeful. "Our boys" have already made us so happy and so proud; they have done so much for the morale of New Orleans.

The boost to the city's economy has been deeply appreciated.

So it's no wonder that the people who own businesses are happy to show their support on a personal and business level.

Everybody is talking about the game, and who dat music is blaring from every car and on every street corner.

No matter what happens tomorrow, we are proud of the Saints. All over town signs are up that say "Bless You Boys".

The Vamp has Saints fever and decked out perch. in some black and gold.

The Lucite ballroom chair got some Saints eye candy.

A chair with a Saints wreath was placed in each of the four perch. windows.

The blackboard sign out front has the message being shouted all over town: Geaux Saints!

Be back next Tuesday, hopefully with our eyes on The Super Bowl!

Happy Weekend!
