shop fest tonight at perch. new orleans!

With all the Jazz Fest folks in town, the merchants on Magazine Street decided to add to the fun and have Shop Fest! Shops will be open after hours from 5 - 9 PM, serving refreshments, playing music, and generally offering a great evening out and about for locals and visitors.

perch. has a ton of new things in. Summer time is always a great time to refresh the house with a couple of new pretty things.

Maybe you'd like a Kartell Miss Flower Power vase for your patio, and do what we did for the party tonight, and just pop in a pretty potted plant.

A pretty pillow or two is a quick and easy way to add some Summer color, and we are still loving the Phillipe Starck Mademoiselle chair in this beachy turquoise print.

How about some new things for your Summer dining table? This pottery dinnerware from Italy hand made by Fortunata is wonderful. And check out the cute white ceramic artichokes!

There are a pair of iron vintage chairs that would be great on a porch, patio, or in the garden, And perch. has a great selection of vases, and urns, and birdhouses to freshen up your outdoor living space. And check out the fun white ceramic sea shells!

Need a little New Orleans flair to tuck into your suitcase? How about these elegant Fleur di Lis votive candles holders with a Slaktin votive candle? And don't you love the vintage style lady painting, and the antique finials?

The Nest candles are so popular with locals. They are a perfect hostess gift too.

Wouldn't these linen pillows be perfect in a beach house?

The turquoise ceramic bowl is another great accent for a beach house, or the city house that needs a little infusion of Summer color.

So come tonight! Caroline, Jack, and Valorie will be here to make it fun for y'all!
And come and meet photographer Lisa Conrad, and see all the fabulous framed pieces perch. has of her incredible work.

lisa conrad

perch. has some terrific new art in the house!

Photographer Lisa Conrad just dropped off a few goodies that we think would look beautiful in your home.

There are some great images to put in your beach or vacation home.

Lisa works primarily in black and white, but she has a few color prints that are equally spectacular. The printing of her work is exquisite, and perch. has several pieces already handsomely framed.

You know you want this for your beach house!

Lisa's photos are evocative and impressionistic, and large scale.

Her images of horses are especially exquisite. She took them while she was evacuated from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

About Lisa Conrad:

Lisa Conrad started modeling at the age of 20.

In 1994 she switched gears to the opposite side of the camera. A friend gave her a camera after seeing the images Lisa had taken with it in a New Orleans cemetery.

Lisa says, "It was like someone putting a paint brush in your hand and discovering you're an artist".

The images from her first roll of film ended up being displayed in Gucci's windows.

Having had the experience modeling, she felt, enabled her to manipulate lighting/subject matter.

Although, Lisa is a primarily self-taught artist, she did study darkroom techniques at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts under the direction of Victoria Ryan.

Over the past 16 years Lisa has shown her collective works from photo studies she has taken on her journeys from New Orleans, Iceland, France, Austria, Death Valley to wherever she felt inspired to pick up her camera.

After her first show at Reginelli's in New Orleans, Lisa was offered to be part a group show at the Contemporary Art Center in New Orleans. Since then she has shown in Memphis, New York, Boston and New Orleans, where she is currently residing.

Lisa participated and curated the "Women in Photography" exhibit at National Video in Boston in 2000.

Although , Lisa enjoys the traditional gallery format to exhibit her works, she over the years has also chosen to show at a friend's cafe in Boston. It was at the "Claremont Cafe" in Boston where Sinclair Hitchings (the art curator at the Boston Public Library) purchased three of Lisa's pieces to be added to what is the largest private collection of photography in New England.

Lisa is currently represented by perch. at 2844 Magazine Street in New Orleans.

Come and meet her on Thursday April 29 at perch. for Shop Fest, 5 - 9 PM.

as seen in elle decor - perch. has it!

We are like all of you when it comes to magazines. We love them, and we pour over the new issues when they arrive.

We really get excited when we see things we carry at perch. featured. We try hard to keep the current trends in stock for our design loving customers.

We found quite a few things that we have for sale at perch in the current May 2010 issue of Elle Decor.

Large scale photographs are a wonderful way to add art to your rooms. Images of animals are the subject de jour, with horses being the favorite.

perch. has incredible over size photographs by Lisa Conrad. She evacuated to a horse farm during Katrina, and took some memorable images.

Ikat is still going strong, and we were thrilled to see some of the Ikat pillows we carry at perch. featured in Elle Decor!

We have two colors, green and a bright pinky purple one.

They look wonderful on their own or mixed together, or mixed with other prints or solids.

They were recently purchased by the set designer Helen Britten and used on the set for the new Kate Hudson movie Earthbound that just finished shooting in New Orleans.

Elle does a "ten best" feature every month, and this month they did ten best coffee tables.

And guess what? perch. has the Jacqui coffee table from Bungalow 5!

It comes in white, green, brown, red, orange, and black.

There is also this fantastic chandelier in a sphere that we spotted in Elle Decor, and though we don't carry the exact one, we have one very much like it.

This is the chandelier inside a sphere that we sell at perch. It's gorgeous!

perch. in may 2010 issue of food and wine magazine

perch. loves photo shoots!

A few months ago Food and Wine Magazine stopped by to snap some photos for the May 2010 issue for a feature entitled "Magazine Street: New Orleans's Best Design Street"
HERE

The Vamp took this photo over the shoulder of Food and Wine photographer Paul Costello.

It was late in the afternoon, and Paul likes to shoot in natural light, so the crew had to hustle.

The style crew from Food and Wine Magazine visit perch. New Orleans

They took a ton of photos all over the shop, but the fabulous one above taken by Paul Costello made the cut.

Caroline showed the Food and Wine folks around, and made them feel super welcome. Jack and Valorie always keep the shop looking magazine worthy.

And we thank Bryan Batt for including us on his list of favorite shops that led Food and Wine to our door.

Read his fabulous article "A Madly Stylish Party in New Orleans"

And do buy the May 2010 issue of Food and Wine Magazine on the newsstands! The web site is terrific, but there is nothing better than holding the magazine in your hands!
