not your average Foo Dog

Interestingly, what have commonly become known as “foo dogs” in the west are not "dogs" at all but are actually Chinese Guardian Lions.  For centuries these statues have guarded the entry-ways of tombs, temples and homes and are believed to possess magical protective qualities.

The lions are always created in pairs, with the male resting his paw upon the world and the female restraining a playful cub that is on its back. They occur in many types of Chinese pottery and in Western imitations.

I found this awesome turquoise one at an estate sale in Atlanta.  A Chinese antiquities expert told us that she believes this one appears to be rather old due to the authentic aged look of it and because of its style with the long whiskers.

Highlights of NY Times & barefoot nomads...

so my April New York Times Style Magazine from a few weeks ago still sits on my desk in a massive pile of papers.
and I know why.
There is nothing I don't like, including the article on the beautiful Jessica Chastain...

yep, I need this Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiere dress, yes?


and it made me realize ...  I need a golf cart

and I don't golf.  but might pick it up one day...

The band, Big Deal featured in NY Times Style Magazine who debuted at South by Southwest.

and the lovingly embellished Holliday Grainger (recently in jane Eyre) photographed for the NY Times

but I've drawn the most inspiration from the interiors spread of the French-Moroccan entrepreneur/designer Ramdane Touhami & his wife amazing wife Victoire De Taillac.

and pictured here, some years and three children later in the NY Times, the “T-n-T” clan, as they are known, are "living a life of nomads, hopping from continent to continent and city to city — Paris, Jaipur, Tangier — setting up camp in temporary lodgings and then, when it’s time to move on, literally pulling the rug out from beneath their feet."

“We do two years per country,” Touhami says. “That is my rule.” And that would sound like a compromise in the couple’s relationship if it weren’t for their incredible talent for making themselves at home no matter where they are in the world.

education program that teaches youth ages 5-17 how to start, 

own and operate their own business using a lemonade stand. 

On one day across our country youth learn fundamental 

lessons about life, success and themselves. They earn profits, 

share with charities and stimulate local economies. 

Our friends Ian and Jack chose to have their lemonade stand on the front porch at perch.!  Ian has chosen to donate a portion of proceeds to the LA SPCA.  They will also be taking in blankets & pet supplies for the animal shelter.  

Jack has chosen to donate to the United Churches of Algiers.  They will also be taking in non-perishable food items for the food bank.
